Podcasting Hype?
Caught wind of the growing mainstream media hype on podcasting?
Articles like in todays NYT make it sound like listening to on demand mp3 audio programs on your portable player is a new idea.
To the credit of Dave Winer over at Ipodder.org, a leading force in podcasting, he stays right on the mark in describing what they do.
What is new is that Ipodder built a very friendly aggregator to more easily subscribe to and manage on demand audio content. Also available are some more idiot proof tools for recording audio direct to your hard drive. Podcasting is also a terrific branding strategy for making these new refined services easy to understand. Using a name that attaches nicely to some of the current chic and cache of the IPOD is pretty smart too.
Ipodder and others in the field, including the passionate content developers putting out their programs through this “new” distribution channel, are doing great work.
Keep it up, and don’t let the hype distract you.
